SALARY: $33.47/hour starting Increased to $34.22 after 60 day probationary period SHIFT: Please note that shifts are classified as "Southern Swing" shifts. ROLE SUMMARY: At the Merrimack Brewery, the Utilities Operator is a critical role responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of Brewery-wide industrial utility systems such as steam generation, ammonia and glycol refrigeration, industrial HVAC and dehumidification, compressed air, process and potable water treatment, wastewater pre-treatment, and CO2 processing. Technicians routinely monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and maintain all system. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: Operate Brewery Utility systems, including steam, CO2 collection, ammonia and glycol refrigeration, dehumidification, compressed air, water, and wastewater. Perform chemical treatment for boiler water, cooling tower water, and pasteurizer water. Responsible for process management, maintenance tasks, lubrication, housekeeping, and sanitation. Document and respond to all events that occur during shift of responsibility. Support operating department requests for assistance with Utility systems. Perform Preventive Maintenance and Predictive Maintenance inspections. Analyze process data to drive equipment efficiency. Lead and participate in continuous process improvement activities inside and outside the department (PDCA, 5 Why, Lean Six Sigma). JOB QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED required. Fireman/Engineering Licensure or Marine Engineering Degree preferred Familiarity with automated process control systems. Ability to read and interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) and other schematics. Experience with water tube, medium pressure boilers; industrial ammonia refrigeration systems; compressed air systems; cooling tower systems; CO2 gas collection and liquefaction systems preferred. Ability to perform mechanical work including valve maintenance/replacement, belt replacement, motor/gearbox replacement, and lubrication routes. Strong computer skills required. Ability to troubleshoot problems, identify root causes (e.g. six sigma analysis) and propose and implement remedies.
